As an avid iPhone user, I’m always on the hunt for the next great app. It might be related to education, or it could (as my children would cheer) be associated with the holiday du-jour. I’m always impressed by the developers of web and mobile applications. Until recently though, someone had to have a really smart eye when it came to pulling out apps that would have real instructional pull. It was with pleasure then, when I accessed the Apple App store this week and came across a section they are actively promoting called “Special Education.”
Though the name might imply that all the apps are related to working with students with needs, it’s actually a good listing of apps that can be applied in various grade levels and even for teacher consumption. I don’t mean to exclude the growing chorus of teachers out there using Droid or Windows Mobile devices, but I wanted to give a shout-out to Apple for listening to the needs of teachers and students and providing a great resource to explore.
If your school is using Apple App Store, Droid Market, or another system and has some great apps that teachers can use that act as a benefit-add to what they do, please share!
